The Tim Tebow experiment in Jacksonville is finally over.
The Jaguars released the 34-year-old former Heisman Trophy winner on Tuesday after a disastrous performance in the opening preseason game, ending the short-lived return to the NFL. Tebow, who had not appeared in a regular season game since 2012, was attempting a comeback at tight end after a few years of playing minor-league baseball in the Mets system.
From the get go, the decision to sign Tebow was widely criticized as a publicity stunt and a favor from Urban Meyer for his former college quarterback.
On Tuesday, Meyer answered questions about the decision to release Tebow, and the Jaguars coach said that Tebow took the news well.

Meyer admitted that it was going to be an uphill battle for Tebow (obviously). Plus, Tebow’s absolute inability to execute basic blocking assignments probably made the decision far easier for Meyer than he wanted it to be.
It was a move that almost certainly ended Tebow’s professional football career. But hey, at least they sold a few jerseys in the process.
