Urban Meyer addresses viral video, says he apologized to Jags organization for being a distraction

Dating back to their loss to the Cincinnati Bengals, it’s been a rough few days for the Jacksonville Jaguars. A big reason for that is because of what transpired off the field in addition to the game as a viral video surfaced of an unknown woman dancing on Jags coach Urban Meyer at a restaurant.

Of course, that was the first topic addressed Monday as Meyer spoke with the media and the first-year head coach said he apologized to the players, front office, and every one else who the video effected.

“I just apologized to the team and the staff for being a distraction. It was stupid,” Meyer said Monday morning, according to News4Jax. “I explained everything that happened and owned it, and, you know, just stupid, should not have had myself in that kind of position.”

The video occurred after Meyer decided to stay in his native state of Ohio after Thursday’s loss. He told the media that he stayed behind to spend time with his grandchildren and ended up going to a restaurant (where the video was recorded) with some members of his family.

“There’s a big group next to our restaurant and they wanted me to come over and take pictures and I did,” Meyer said. “They were trying to pull me out on the dance floor, screwing around, and I should have left.”

Meyer said the players accepted his apology and have turned their focus to Sunday’s divisional game against the Tennessee Titans. That’s probably exactly what fans were hoping to hear because not only is the game a divisional one, but it’s one where the Jags will be looking to avoid their 20th consecutive loss.

After losing Thursday, the Jags hit 19 losses, which tied the 2007-09 Detroit Lions for the second-longest losing streak when it comes to the Super Bowl era. The record for the longest losing streak of the Super Bowl era belongs to the 1976-77 Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who lost 26 straight games.
