UPTET 2022: 10 people, including two kingpins arrested for impersonation in Mathura

AGRA: The Mathura police has arrested ten persons including five proxy candidates, who are also students, for alleged impersonation in UPTET (Uttar Pradesh Teacher Eligibility Test) exam held in the city on Sunday.

Two masterminds, who were allegedly running this operation for the last four years, were also arrested by the police.

Police said that the kingpin of the gang— Vijay Singh (32) and Hanumanaram (27) - hail from Rajasthan and they had arranged the suspects for impersonating the actual candidates. They charged Rs 1.25 -1.5 lakh per candidate and initially 10-15 percent amount was paid to them. The balance amount was payable after getting a successful result, said police.

Talking to TOI, SSP Guarav Grover, said that the five impersonators, who were arrested by the police are students and were in fact themselves preparing for the competitive exams and they hail from Jalore in Rajasthan. All of them are in their 20s.

Elaborating the modus operandi of the gang, the SSP, said that the client appearing in the TET exam contacted the kingpins of the gang through a middleman. Once the deal was struck, Vijay Singh asked the student for their admit card for identifying impersonators with similar physical appearance.

The gang members and impersonators were arrested by the police while they were allegedly dividing the money after appearing in the exam on Sunday, said officials, adding that some of their associates fled from the spot. A manhunt has been launched to nab the suspects, said the SSP.

The FIR has been registered against 10 people under section 419 (cheating by personation), 420 (Cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 467 (Forgery of a valuable security), 468 (Forgery for purpose of cheating), 471 (Whoever fraudulently or dishonestly uses as genuine any document), 120 B (criminal conspiracy) of IPC and UP Public Examination Act.
