Upset mum's warning after accidentally eating heart-shaped Walkers crisp worth £100K

A gutted mum unknowingly ate a crisp shaped like a heart that could have scooped her £100,000 in cash.

Supermarket worker Dawn Sagar was enjoying a pack of Walkers ready salted before her shift last Wednesday when she picked out the perfect shape. The mum-of-two had no clue the brand has a promotion offering the money to the punter who finds the best romantic potato snack.

Dawn was simply content to have made the stunning discovery so soon after Valentine's Day - and sent a photo to her pals. By the time they get got back to her to tell her about the prize and not to eat the crisp, it was too late and the snack had been devoured.

Fortunately Dawn, 40, from Shropshire, is philosophical about the whole experience. She told the Mirror: "I was gutted, but you know what, it is not the end of the world, is it? It would have made my life a little bit happier, but I haven't got the money so it doesn't make a difference."

Talking of the crisp, which she reckons could have been the best of all, she added: "Everyone's like, 'oh my God you could have had the money,' but it doesn't matter. I haven't got that money in my life. It might have made me miserable."

However, Dawn has been encouraging shoppers to keep an eye out for any unusual crisps and not make her mistake. "Every time I serve somebody with a pack of Walkers 'I'm like, check if you've got a heart and don't eat it," she said.

While Dawn is not certain when the crisps were first purchased, as she bought them at her staff canteen, there's plenty of time for crisp lovers to find eligible entries for the competition, which launched a couple of weeks ago.

Late December, Walkers announced it was on the lookout for the best heart-shaped crisp, giving fans until March 20 2023 to enter.

The crisp brand says heart shapes can be found in packs of Walkers crisps thanks to the natural shapes of its British potatoes - meaning anyone could be in with a chance.

But be warned you've got to follow the terms and conditions, so make sure you aren't tempted to try any heart-shaped crisps you find if you fancy a chance to win the cash.

A Walkers spokesperson said: "We’re very sorry to hear of Dawn’s mishap, but all is not lost - heart shaped crisps naturally occur in many packets of our Walkers crisps, and as the competition doesn’t close until midnight on 20th March, there’s still plenty of time to find the best heart shaped crisp, and win £100,000. Remember to keep your crisp & packet safe! People looking to enter can find full details of entry requirements at www.competition.walkers.co.uk/heart_shaped_crisp_hunt - good luck!"
