Upset Loose Women viewers sickened by racist reactions to panel on Twitter

Loose Women viewers have been left appalled by racist remarks made about the panel during Thursday's episode.

Earlier this year, the ITV lunchtime talk show won a coveted Royal Television Society award for a history-making edition which featured Loose Women' s first ever all-black panel since its debut 21 years ago.

The women on the panel that day - Judi Love, Brenda Edwards, Kéllé Bryan and Charlene White - were back in action again on Thursday, with Kéllé, despite them being colleagues for a number of months, meeting Charlene for the first time in the flesh due to coronavirus restrictions.

The quartet of panellists discussed everything from childhood crushes, after the death of Levi's ad heartthrob Nick Kamen, to childhood tantrums, but they soon found themselves the target of racist comments from people on Twitter.

Fans of the show leapt to the ladies' defence, firing back at the people who posted the offensive comments and screen grabbing some of the vile things they'd posted.

One, seen by ChronicleLive read: "I see we have a very diverse panel today, all black which does not represent my Country. Can you imagine the uproar if there were 4 white presenters?! There would be mayhem and absolute chaos!" and another equally offensive tweet read: "Time to turn Loose Women OVER! We're supposed to be a multi-racial country not a Black country!"

Another, referencing the contestants on Alan Carr's Epic Gameshow on Saturday, who also prompted racist comments, said they found the line-up "insulting."

But, taking aim at the racist comments against the Loose Women panel, one viewer fumed: "It’s sad that these women can’t do their jobs without racists making comments. What is wrong with people?! It’s 2021 ffs."

Equally angry at some of the things they'd read, another posted: "It’s so vile, makes me sick seeing these vile comments," and a third commented: "Racist Twitter ask yourself do you complain when it’s a full white panel? Do black people act like this? No and this is the problem we still have this dreadful attitude towards skin colour. Today’s show has been so much fun"

Thoroughly enjoying Thursday's show, another reacted: "Absolutely loving the panel on today's #LooseWomen ! And yes, it happens to be an all-black female Dream Team.

"I'm simultaneously fascinated and repulsed by racist Tweets complaining about the panel's lack of diversity...because it's all-black. Doesn't apply when it's all-white?"
