Upper Dunmurry Lane play park material stolen

A large quantity of glue and plastics have been stolen from a play park site.

Police are investigating the theft from the building site at Upper Dunmurry Lane.

Among the stolen items was 2500kgs of plastic and 3220kgs of glue.

Work is ongoing on a community play park at the site.

A PSNI spokesman said: "The playground renovation building site at Upper Dunmurry Lane was broken into between lunchtime on Saturday 31st August and 7.30am on Monday 2nd September 2019.

"A large quantity of heavy equipment was stolen including 2500kgs of plastic and 3220kgs of glue which had been stored in black barrels.

"This theft would have taken time, it would have required heavy machinery and significant manpower. Did you see anyone on the site during these hours? Did you see lorries going on and off the site?"

SDLP Councillor Brian Heading told Belfast Live: "The theft of the material will not cause any long term delay the construction of the playground.

"However, the theft of this material is of concern.

"This project has been campaigned for over the last 15 years and  a substantial amount of rate payers money has been allocated to provide a state of the art facility.

"Anyone with any information should contact the police."
