Upmarket Edinburgh home will be rebuilt after fire that left one person dead

An upmarket Edinburgh house will be rebuilt after a fire that left one person dead earlier this year.

The fire was discovered at the premises in Barnton Park Avenue in the early hours of the morning on January 3, 2021.

Tragically one person lost their life and extensive damage was caused to the property.

Now Edinburgh council has received notice that they plan to rebuilt the dwelling.

The property in a busy residential area was demolished and is now secured and ready for the new build.

The new elevations show the developer plans to replicate the old house, and enhance the design by adding a porch and other features.

It was designed with the owners lifetime needs in mind, including a new bedroom and ensuite located on the ground floor and a reading area at first floor.

The developer says the new house will not interfere with neighbouring properties.

They say: “The new property will provide an enhancement to the original house, with future provision for age-friendly living.

"The rationalisation of the levels internally; the provision of a porch and further storage will improve the thermal and functional requirements for our Client. The adjustments to the materials (design, form and proportions) will enhance the property in its surrounding context without creating an eyesore to other neighbouring properties.”

The City of Edinburgh Council are expected to make a decision on the planning application in the coming weeks.
