‘Upmarket’ craft beer and wine bar planned for town centre

An ‘upmarket’ craft beer and wine bar is planned for Horwich town centre.

A planning application for the new venture, which the applicant says will provide ‘relaxed, convivial atmosphere’ has been lodged with Bolton Council.

The location is a former DG Optical opticians on Lee Lane in the town centre, which is currently vacant.

A planning statement in support of the application has been filed with the council.

It states: “This submission is made by a group of four professionals from various disciplines, all of whom live locally in the Borough, and who have identified a need for a more upmarket drinking establishment
providing high-quality wine and ale in a relaxed, convivial atmosphere.

“The current offer in Horwich town centre does not satisfy this market.”

The application says that informal comments on the proposal have been received from Bolton West MP Chris Green who wishes the new venture every success and Horwich Town Council, who are keen to see new business opening in the town centre.

If the application is approved, the business would provide one full-time and four part-time jobs and the proposed opening hours would be from noon until 11pm Sunday to Friday and until 11.30pm on Saturdays.

Although the proposed premises lie within Horwich town centre conservation area, the applicant, Daniel Martindale said in the documents that a detailed design and access plan is not required as it is an application merely for change of use of the premises.

The applicant said no external alterations are proposed other than new signs, which will be submitted separately.

There will be no car parking areas directly associated with the premises.

As part of the plans, the existing toilets at the premises are to be refurbished to provide a unisex accessible facility.

Neighbouring premises on Lee Lane, Winter Hey Lane and Longworth Road are now to be consulted on the changes before a decision is made by the council.
