Updates as rescue helicopter and coastguard in search near Liverpool airport

Updates as the Coastguard has confirmed it has been asked by police to help a missing person search in the Garston area.

A spokesman said the search and rescue helicopter along with the Crosby, Wirral and Flint coastguard rescue teams had been deployed at 7.30am on the request of Merseyside police and were "called for a missing person in the Garston area".

It comes as ECHO readers got in touch to say there were lots of emergency services towards Liverpool John Lennon Airport.

Airport officials say the incident is not related to the airport and believe it relates to a search of the River Mersey.

Merseyside police has been asked for official word.

One ECHO reader said: "What’s going on at John Lennon airport? Lots of rescue services at the Speke Hall end. My husband has been down there and called me about what he had seen. Just wondered if it might be a training event. Just seems strange."
