Updated Public Health Scotland Covid infection rate figures for every council region amid 3,375 new cases

A further 3,375 cases of coronavirus have been confirmed as Scotland's virus death toll increased again.

Data has been published this afternoon by the Scottish Government and Public Health Scotland (PHS) as part of the national Covid-19 daily briefing.

Nationally, there are 1,064 patients being treated in hospital which is a rise of 16 from yesterday. There are currently 89 people with the disease being treated in ICUs.

The number of newly-reported positive coronavirus cases recorded by NHS Ayrshire & Arran has increased by 279 to 35,124.

Of the new cases, 90 were from North Ayrshire, 90 in East Ayrshire and 86 attributed to South Ayrshire.

A total of 512,312 positive tests have now been recorded from 2.993 million tests carried out since the start of the pandemic.

According to Public Health Scotland's rolling seven-day infection rate per 100,000 population, West Dunbartonshire has the highest rate in the country – at 1,149.0 as of Monday, September 13.

East Renfrewshire has the second-highest infection rate at 995.2 while North Lanarkshire was third with 939.8.

In terms of Ayrshire's three local authorities, North Ayrshire has the highest rate of 826.1 while East Ayrshire's rate is 784.5 and South Ayrshire's is 652.8.

A total of 16 of Scotland's 32 council regions have an infection rate below the national average of 705.1.

There have been 21 new deaths in the last 24 hours which means 8,263 people have passed away since March 2020.

However, data from the National Records of Scotland (NRS) shows 10,612 deaths had been registered up to Sunday, September 5 where the disease was mentioned on the death certificate.

Across the UK, the figure is 134,261 as of last night.

There are 80 patients being treated for the disease in Ayrshire hospitals, which is down three on yesterday, and nine in ICUs, which is up two.

Nationally, a total of 4,144,904 people have received the first dose of a Covid vaccine and 3,788,551 have received their second dose.
