Updated: Police confirm body found in Dumbarton is that of missing Karen Murphy

Police have confirmed a body found is that of Renton woman Karen Murphy.

A body of a woman was found on the banks of the River Leven in Dumbarton on Sunday.

The 53-year-old's family were notified at the time and formal identification was confirmed by Police Scotland this afternoon.

Officers say there are no suspicious circumstances.

Inspector Graeme Hogg from Dumbarton Police Station said: "Our thoughts continue to be with Karen's family and friends as they come to terms with this news and we have officers providing them with assistance at this difficult time.

"There are no apparent suspicious circumstances surrounding her death and a report has been submitted to the Procurator Fiscal."

Karen went missing more than four weeks ago, with the last sighting of her leaving Renton train station on Monday, January 13.

She had boarded the train at Hyndland, having left nearby Gartnavel Hospital.

Extensive searches had been taking place across the area since.
