The Mountain West football season is just past the quarter pole and the frontrunner is Boise State, once again. The Broncos are undefeated and are ranked No. 16 and could get even higher as the season goes.
With the Broncos playing as well as they are and the only undefeated team, they are by far getting the best odds. There is still a lot of football left including the Broncos traveling to Utah State on Nov. 23 which is their toughest game.
The Aggies are the challenger to Boise State but the oddsmakers are not a fan of Utah State even sniffing the division title and are considered fourth to win the Mountain West. That is how far ahead the Broncos are to the rest of the league.
There are two other games that might — stress might — be able to beat Boise State is Wyoming due to its defense and Hawaii with its offense. Those two are not likely to upend the Broncos but they will present a challenge.
Other teams that can make a run at the title seemingly come from the West Divison in Fresno State who despite being just 2-2 and having just a single FBS win are getting the second-best odds. The other West Division team that is tied with the Bulldogs is San Diego State and the Aztecs host the Bulldogs and that game could very likely come down to what team represents the West in the Mountain West title game.
Overall, there are really six teams that can compete for the conference title. Boise State, Fresno State, Utah State, Wyoming, San Diego State, and Hawaii.
The Warriors are in the mix because the only game they are not favored in the rest of the way is a road game at Boise State. That makes seeing the Warriors odds so low a bit interesting as they are behind Wyoming.
As for the Cowboys, they have a tougher schedule by going on the road to play Boise State, Air Force, and Utah State. So, while they have the path to a title it is a very tough road.
