Updated look at the Jags’ salary cap as the draft approaches

The Jacksonville Jaguars have made several transactions since the start of free agency, most of which have been short-term prove it deals aside from the one given to quarterback Nick Foles. As a result, they’ve moved from being next to last in cap space (from early March) to 15th in the league with just over $13.8 million as of now, per Over the Cap.

When looking at the cap hits of the Jags’ new additions, it appears they did a marvelous job minimizing the figures for 2019, which sums up how the Jags are maintaining. Foles’ cap hit for his mega deal is just $12 million on the season, while tight end Geoff Swaim and receiver Chris Conley were brought in on affordable two-year deals that consist of cap hits barely over $2 million for 2019. Guard A.J. Cann, who was brought back on a three-year deal, will have a minimal figure on the season, too, coming in with a cap hit that is slightly over $2.4 million.

Talk about a solid job by John Idzik and the front office.

Per Over the Cap, the Jags rookie class will require roughly $8.7 million to all be signed, but that figure can slightly change if the Jags have to maneuver at any point of the draft. However, if they make their seven selections as they are they would have roughly $5.1 million in cap space once their draft selections are all signed.
