Updated look at the Eagles salary cap situation after Chris Long’s retirement

The Philadelphia Eagles were already sitting pretty when it came to their influx of salary cap space and the team received even more cushion after Chris Long decided to retire. According to Over The Cap, the Eagles had around $21,648,391 in salary cap space, the 13th-highest amount in the NFL, before Long announced his retirement.

Long was due $3.5 million this season, and his salary would have counted $5.6 million against the cap. With that freed up space, the Eagles should have around $26M-$28M in available cap space as they continue to venture towards the regular season while looking to lock Carson Wentz up in a long term deal.

Howie Roseman has made some big moves this offseason including acquiring receiver DeSean Jackson, signing defensive tackle Malik Jackson and trading for running back Jordan Howard. Roseman was rewarded for his shrewd and savvy front office work when NFL.com ranked him as the No. 2 GM in the league.
