Updated history of Chiefs’ compensatory picks

In 2019, the Chiefs only have one compensatory pick: a sixth-rounder due to the loss of defensive tackle Bennie Logan. It’s now legal to trade compensatory picks, and knowing the tendencies of Brett Veach, it’s possible this one gets traded away too. In 2018 the Chiefs included their 2018 compensatory pick as part of the Marcus Peters trade with the Rams.

Since 1994, the Chiefs have been awarded 25 total compensatory picks. That includes their latest pick in 2019. So far they’ve turned those picks into 20 players, with several ending up as long-term contributors. One of those contributors is even scheduled to become a free agent this season.
