Updated depth chart for the Raiders after the 2019 NFL draft

With the draft over, let’s review the updated chart, and analyze the depth of the 2019 Oakland Raiders. Here is every player currently on the Raiders roster heading into the summer:

Quarterback

Derek Carr, Mike Glennon, Landry Jones, Nathan Peterman

The Raiders are all in on Derek Carr not even drafting a backup quarterback to help out, giving him the confidence he needs going forward. Mike Glennon and Landry Jones are expected to compete for the backup quarterback job behind Carr.

Running Back

Josh Jacobs, Isaiah Crowell, Jalen Richard, Deandre Washington, Chris Warren

The Raiders now have depth at the running back position after selecting Josh Jacobs with the No. 24 pick in the 2019 NFL draft and signing Isaiah Crowell in free agency. Jalen Richard will remain the team’s passing back and Deandre Washington and Chris Warren will be competing for a roster spot this preseason.

Wide Receiver

Outside Receiver Antonio Brown, Tyrell Williams, J.J. Nelson, Marcell Ateman, Dwayne Harris, Keon Hatcher, Saeed Blacknall, Keelan Doss

Slot Receiver: Ryan Grant, Hunter Renfrow

Wide receiver depth is an area of concern if anyone gets injured, especially Antonio Brown. Besides him and Tyrell Williams, there are not many high-level starters at the position. Expect everyone outside of the top two in Brown and Williams to be competing for a roster spot during camp.

Tight End

Lee Smith, Darren Waller, Derek Carrier, Luke Wilson, Foster Moreau, Paul Butler

The tight end depth stands out the most on the roster, allowing for injuries to happen with replacements who could start if needed. Darren Waller has a chance to become a playmaker for the offense and will be featured this season.

Offensive Line

Left Tackle: Kolton Miller, David Sharpe, Tyler Roemer

Left Guard: Gabe Jackson, Chaz Green, Lester Cotton

Center: Rodney Hudson

Right Guard: Denzelle Good, Denver Kirkland, Andre James

Right Tackle: Trent Brown, Brandon Parker, Justin Murray

The offensive line is solid on paper and is dependent on the growth of former first-round pick Kolton Miller. Rodney Hudson, Gabe Jackson, and Denzelle Good help the Raiders deploy a strong interior offensive line.

Defensive Line

Defensive Tackle: Justin Ellis, Johnathan Hankins, Gabe Wright

Left Defensive Tackle: Maurice Hurst, P.J. Hall, Eddie Vanderdoes

Right Defensive End: Arden Key, Benson Mayowa, Maxx Crosby, Quinton Bell

Left Defensive End: Clelin Ferrell, Josh Mauro, Alex Barrett

The Raiders also display depth in their defensive line which will allow them to rotate and keep players fresh. Having Johnathan Hankins, and P.J Hall as backups shows how deep they can be at the position.

Linebacker

Will Linebacker: Brandon Marshall, Tahir Whitehead, Nicholas Morrow

Middle Linebacker: Vontaze Burfict, Jason Cabinda, Kyle Wilber

Strong Linebacker: Marquel Lee, James Cowser, Te’Von Coney

The linebacker position has been vastly improved with players who had high snap counts the year before falling in the depth chart. Vontaze Burfict and Brandon Marshall are immediate upgrades even in their decline.

Secondary

Left Cornerback: Gareon Conley, Nick Nelson, Nevin Lawson, Tevin Mitchell, Makinton Dorleant

Right Cornerback: Daryl Worley, Trayvon Mullins, Isaiah Johnson, Rico Gafford, Montrel Meander

Strong Safety: Karl Joseph, Johnathan Abram, Dallin Leavitt

Free Safety: Lamarcus Joyner, Erik Harris, Curtis Riley

First thing you notice about the defense is the defensive back depth. The Raiders are loaded with versatile defensive backs who can handle many positions. Lamarcus Joyner and Curtis Riley can both play in the slot while players like Johnathan Abram and Karl Joseph can play both safety positions.

Special teams

Dec 24, 2018; Oakland, CA, USA; Oakland Raiders wide receiver Dwayne Harris (17) runs for a touchdown on a 99-yard punt return against the Denver Broncos during the first quarter at Oakland Coliseum. Mandatory Credit: Kelley L Cox-USA TODAY Sports

Punter: Johnny Townsend, Drew Kaser

Kicker: Daniel Carlson, Eddy Pinero

Long Snapper: Andrew DePaola, Trent Sieg

Kick Returner: Dwayne Harris, Antonio Brown

Punter Returner: Dwayne Harris, Antonio Brown

Johnny Townsend should just have competition from Drew Kaser after struggling during his rookie campaign. Daniel Carlson has the kicker spot on lock after his breakout performance after being scooped up on waivers last season. Dwayne Harris was a Pro Bowl alternate last season as a returner and fans should expect the same in 2019.
