The Kansas City Chiefs made a pair of roster moves, so it’s time to update our 90-man offseason depth chart for this month.
We still haven’t had an opportunity to see players hit the field, but we are getting closer to training camp. Holdovers from the 2019 season will still have an advantage in our depth chart projections. Some draft picks and undrafted free agents will also have an advantage based on draft status and what we’ve learned about them thus far from the players, coaches and staff.
Here are our latest updated projections for the offseason depth chart:

Offense (44)
| Pos. | First | Second | Third | Fourth |
| QB | Patrick Mahomes | Matt Moore | Chad Henne | Jordan Ta’amu |
| RB | Damien Williams | Clyde Edwards-Helaire | Darrel Williams, Darwin Thompson, DeAndre Washington | Eljiah McGuire |
| FB | Anthony Sherman | John Lovett | ||
| WR | Tyreek Hill | Demarcus Robinson, Byron Pringle | Kalija Lipscomb, Maurice Ffrench | Aleva Hifo, Andre Bacellia |
| WR | Sammy Watkins | Mecole Hardman, Gehrig Dieter | Jody Fortson, Justice Shelton-Mosley | Cody White |
| TE | Travis Kelce | Deon Yelder | Ricky Seals-Jones | Nick Keizer |
| LT | Eric Fisher | Greg Senat | Yasir Durant | |
| LG | Andrew Wylie | Martinas Rankin | Jovahn Fair | |
| C | Austin Reiter | Nick Allegretti | Darryl Williams | |
| RG | Laurent Duvernay-Tardif | Lucas Niang | Ryan Hunter | |
| RT | Mitchell Schwartz | Mike Remmers | Jackson Barton |
Observations:
- The Chiefs re-signed veteran QB Matt Moore on Friday. He finished out the season as the backup in Kansas City after going 1-1 during the regular season when Patrick Mahomes suffered a kneecap injury. It’s safe to assume that he’ll jump Chad Henne on the depth chart in his return.
- The Chiefs also released Shea Patterson and with the addition of Moore, Jordan Ta’amu moves down to fourth-string in our depth chart projection. It’s not ideal for his chances of making the 53-man roster.

Defense (42)
| Pos. | First | Second | Third |
| LDE | Alex Okafor | Breeland Speaks | Demone Harris, Taco Charlton |
| LDT | Chris Jones | Khalen Saunders | Tershawn Wharton |
| RDT | Derrick Nnadi | Mike Pennel | Devaroe Lawrence, Braxton Hoyett |
| RDE | Frank Clark | Tanoh Kpassagnon | Mike Danna, Tim Ward |
| LB | Anthony Hitchens | Willie Gay Jr. | Ben Niemann, Darius Harris |
| LB | Damien Wilson | Dorian O’Daniel | Emmanuel Smith, Bryan Wright, Omari Cobb |
| LCB | Charvarius Ward | Antonio Hamilton | BoPete Keyes, Jalen Julius |
| RCB | Bashaud Breeland | L’Jarius Sneed | Chris Lammons, Hakeem Bailey |
| SCB | Rashad Fenton | Alex Brown | Lavert Hill, Javaris Davis |
| FS | Juan Thornhill | Daniel Sorensen | Andrew Soroh |
| SS | Tyrann Mathieu | Armani Watts | Rodney Clemons |
Observations:
- One of the biggest questions of the offseason was answered after an image surfaced online of an in-shape and leaner Breeland Speaks. I’ve moved him back to the edge rusher position after having him listed as a defensive tackle. I think he’ll still shift inside on certain downs, but he’ll certainly play defensive end.
- We recently learned that Tershawn Wharton isn’t the 6-4 and 255-pound player the Chiefs list him as. According to Wharton’s trainer, he’s a 6-foot-3 and 290-pound defensive tackle. He’s also an athletic freak. We’ve updated his projection accordingly and currently have him in a third-string spot behind Khalen Saunders.

Special teams (4)
| Pos. | First | Second | Third |
| P | Tommy Townsend | Tyler Newsome | |
| K | Harrison Butker | ||
| KO | Harrison Butker | ||
| LS | James Winchester | ||
| H | Tommy Townsend | Tyler Newsome | |
| PR | Tyreek Hill | Justice Shelton-Mosley | Maurice Ffrench |
| KR | Mecole Hardman | Maurice Ffrench | Justice Shelton-Mosley |
Observations:
- I went ahead and updated these projections to give you an idea of the two players that I anticipate will push for opportunities as return specialists. Justice Shelton-Mosley has shown the most promise returning punts, while Maurice Ffrench has shown more promise as a kick returner in college. Tyreek Hill and Mecole Hardman are still the top options, but they likely won’t be utilized unless the game is on the line.
