UPDATE: Woman and one child have 'serious injuries' following Carluke crash

A woman and one of three children struck by a car in Carluke yesterday have "serious but not life-threatening injuries".

The other two youngsters involved in the horror crash are said to have sustained minor injuries following the incident.

The terrifying scenes resulted in 10 ambulances rushing to the scene between James Street and Kirkton Street shortly after 3pm.

A woman in her 20s and three kids were rushed to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow where they have been receiving treatment.

Meanwhile the driver of the car involved did not require any immediate medical assistance.

Police Scotland provided an update on the incident today as the force appeal for people with information to get in touch.

Inspector William Broatch told Lanarkshire Live: “The incident involved a car and four pedestrians – a woman and three children.

"All four were taken to hospital for treatment.

"The woman and one of the children are described as having serious, but not life-threatening injuries, whilst the other two sustained minor injuries.

“The car driver did not require any immediate medical treatment."

“We continue to ask for any members of the public who witnessed the crash and has yet to speak to police, to please come forward.

"We are also keen to hear from anyone with potential dashcam footage from the area. Anyone with information can call police on 101, quoting incident 2110 of 27 October.”

Meanwhile, a Clydesdale councillor has claimed the four casualties struck by a car in Carluke yesterday are mother and her three children.

It is understood the youngsters are aged only seven, four and three years old, whilst the woman is in her 20s.

Local councillor for Clydesdale West last night said their "condition is serious" as she updated concerned constituents on the incident.

Taking to Facebook to update constituents, Councillor Corbett wrote: "A mother and her three children (aged seven, four and three) have been taken to hospital where we understand their condition is serious.

"Early reports suggest a car mounted the pavement. At this time we do not have names so cannot confirm what school/nursery the children attend.

"You will appreciate that this is a Police Scotland led incident and if we get further information we will share this with you.

"This is absolutely heart breaking news. I hope and pray that everyone is ok."

Clydesdale MSP Màiri McAllan has shared her concern for those involved in the accident.

She posted on Twitter yesterday: "I am deeply worried about reports from Carluke this afternoon.

"My team have been in touch with police offering all our support.

"I want to thank the emergency services on the scene and in the meantime am, like everyone, praying for good news that no one is seriously hurt."
