Update: Packers add Mack to practice squad, still have open spot on 53-man roster

The Green Bay Packers still have an open spot on the 53-man roster.

Instead of filling the spot with defensive lineman Daylon Mack, the Packers simply signed the former Baltimore Raven defender to the team’s practice squad.

The team announced Mack and running back Dexter Williams were added to the practice squad on Thursday, replacing running back Damarea Crockett and offensive tackle Alex Light, who were both released.

It was originally reported that Mack would sign to the active roster, filling the 53rd roster spot. Instead, the Packers signed him to the 16-player practice squad.

The Packers could be waiting until the end of the week, when the team’s injury situation is more clear, to fill the active roster.

Mack, a fifth-round pick of the Ravens last year, is on his fourth team in just over a month. He was also with the New York Giants and Detroit Lions during training camp.
