Update on manhunt over 'abduction' of three children after Met Police turned focus on Bristol

The Met Police is continuing its appeal to find three missing boys and their alleged abductor after the investigation turned on Bristol a week ago.

The London-based police force today also said a 17-year-old male arrested in Knowle West over the boys' disappearance has been released on bail after questioning.

The boys - Bilal, Mohammed Ebrar and Mohammed Yaseen Safi - were said to have been taken by their father, Imran Safi, in south London on August 20.

While Safi has been at large, 13 people have been arrested in Croydon and Ilford over the case.

And last week (September 2), officers arrested the 17-year-old at a home in Connaught Road in Knowle West on suspicion of being involved in the abduction of the Safi brothers.

Following the arrest, Detective Superintendent Neil Cochlin, of the Metropolitan Police, launched a city-wide appeal for sightings of the boys and their father, who have still not been found.

He said: “Since the brothers were taken by their father, Imran, we have made a significant number of arrests that started in the Croydon area and then took us to Ilford, east London.

“Following these leads we have now arrested a man in Bristol.

“I now call on the communities in Bristol to report any possible sightings of the boys or Imran and to call police if they think they have any information that can assist in this investigation.”

Crimestoppers is appealing for information alongside the Met Police. Last week, 48 calls had been made form the public on the case.

Anyone who believes they have seen Imran Safi and his children since Thursday, 20 August is urged to contact police immediately through the investigation control room on 07942599374 – this number is operational 24 hours a day seven days a week.

Alternatively, to stay completely anonymous, contact the charity Crimestoppers on freephone 0800 555 111 or fill a secure anonymous online  form.

Any member of the public who may see Imran Safi should avoid approaching him but call police immediately on 999.
