Update on major road which was closed for 6 weeks to allow work on 3,000-home development

A major Nottingham road is set to re-open after being shut for six weeks.

Nottingham Road was closed off to the public on Monday, January 18, as work began on the Fairham Development - an £800m plan which will lead to 3,000 homes being built.

The works were for a new junction to be built as one of the phases of the proposed development at Fairham on the outskirts of the Clifton area.

It meant the road was closed off from Clifton South park and ride all the way to Gotham for motorists.

However, after weeks of disruption, the road has now been reopened once again.

A spokesperson for the development said: "Essential works on Nottingham Road close to the Clifton South park and ride site are now coming to completion.

"From Monday, March 1, Nottingham Road will re-open to all traffic from both the north and south.

"We apologise for any disruption to your recent journeys."

As part of the plans for what has been described as 'one of the largest housing and employment developments in the East Midlands', there could also be tram extensions, a primary school, community facilities and more than 200 acres of green space across the 606-acre site.

There are also plans for a new Vision Express headquarters to be built at the Fairham Business Park on the outskirts of Clifton.
