Update on Bristol Wetherspoon pub put up for sale earlier this year

A buyer is yet to be found for a Wetherspoon pub in Bristol, six months after it was put up for sale.

In March it was revealed that profits at the UK-wide chain fell 18.9 per cent to £50.3million in the first half of this financial year as costs rocketed - especially labour, which increased by about £33million.

This was despite revenue rising 7.1 per cent to £889.6million and like-for-like sales increasing by 6.3 per cent in the same period.

As a result the group announced that it was to sell 16 of its sites across the UK, including one in Bristol.

News that St George's Hall in Church Road, Redfield, was one of the pubs up for sale came as a shock to those who visit it regularly.

When we spoke to fans of the pub outside it in April one person said, "It's a community pub and I'll be really sad to see it go," while another pleaded with Wetherspoon's management, adding, "My message to the management would be to please keep it open, it's such an important part of the community."

It has now been six months since the pub was placed on the market and we are no closer to learning its fate, although it currently remains open, to the relief of its regulars.

A Wetherspoon spokesperson told Bristol Live: "The pub is currently under offer but as yet nothing has been signed or sealed.

"The pub will continue to trade as normal."

Research revealed that St George's Hall is the cheapest Wetherspoon pub in Bristol.

It charges £2.99 for Heineken and £2.59 for both Fosters and Carling, with customers spending £2.72 for a pint on average.

It has a five star hygiene rating, as does every Wetherspoon pub in Bristol.
