Update on £120 million redevelopment works to Glasgow Queen Street station

Anyone using Glasgow Queen Street station to commute to and from the city centre will no doubt be aware of the progress that's being made as part of the £120 million redevelopment of the station.

With platforms two and three moved forward and new space made to the George Square and West George Street side, even at this juncture it does give the sensation that of walking in a completely new, different and more modern station.

A marked transformation to a train station that was last re-developed between 1969 and 1973.

The redeveloped station is due for completion in 2020, promises to deliver a modern and fully accessible transport hub via an expanded concourse, new station facilities including accessible toilets, lost property and ticket office as well as space for retail, improved entrances on Dundas Street and George Square and extended platforms to accommodate longer trains.

With the number of people using the station set to increase by 40% to 28 million by 2030, the redeveloped station will manage the growth in passenger numbers while becoming what Network Rail regard as a 'positive and prominent addition to Glasgow’s historic George Square'.

And as the glazing of the new south facade reaches the halfway mark - with nearly 50% of the new windows now installed - Network Rail have shared some photos and videos of the progress so far.
