Update: Man's body recovered from River Clyde

The body of a man has been recovered from the River Clyde near the Erskine Bridge, police have confirmed.

Both sides of the bridge had earlier been closed to traffic as police and the coastguard dealt with the incident.

The man hasn’t been identified and police are looking into the circumstances surrounding what happened.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Police Scotland can confirm that the body of a man has been recovered from the River Clyde near the Erskine Bridge.

“The man is yet to be identified and enquiries and are ongoing to establish the full circumstances relating to this incident.

“Concerns were initially raised shortly before 11am and the man was recovered following a search involving Police Scotland, HM Coastguard and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.

“The Erskine Bridge has now reopened to traffic in both directions and motorists are thanked for their patience.”

Drivers were encouraged to use alternative routes as police, coastguard and emergency services dealt with the incident. Long delays were reported.

The northbound carriageway reopened after an hour and all lanes were open by 1pm.
