Update issued on Lions documentary UK release date as it airs in South Africa this weekend

An announcement over the UK airing of the 2021 Lions documentary is expected soon.

The first instalment of the three-part behind-the-scenes look at the tour airs in South Africa this weekend. As yet, there has been no confirmation of a release date in the northern hemisphere, sparking fears that fans from the home nations might not get a look at what is always eagerly anticipated insight.

But over recent months, broadcasting rights for the UK have been negotiated and those discussions are now nearing completion.

A spokesperson for production company Whisper TV said: "We are hugely excited to unveil our documentary film to all of our fans across the world charting the 2021 Tour to South Africa which was a unique experience for all involved.

"Our teams are in the process of finalising broadcast arrangements for the documentary for the northern hemisphere and we will share details on where it can be viewed in due course."

For the first time ever, the documentary will go into both the South Africa camp and the Lions camp. Previously, cameras have only had access to the tourists but this latest instalment was granted access by the Springboks.
