Update issued on fire which broke out on roof of Broadmarsh car park

Nottingham City Council has issued a statement after a fire broke out on the roof of the Broadmarsh car park and library redevelopment.

At around 5.32pm on Thursday, June 25, Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service was called to the car park, which is currently under-construction in Collin Street, after a plume of smoke could be seen rising from the roof.

The city council is currently developing the site and work is well-underway, unlike the neighbouring intu Broadmarsh shopping centre, where work has ceased due to its financially struggling owner intu now appointing administrators.

Speaking of the fire, a city council spokesman said: "It was a minor fire that was put out before the fire service attended, and caused no damage to the site or structure.

"Our contractor is reviewing the circumstances to ensure it doesn't happen again."

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue dispatched two engines from its London Road station.

A spokesman said the fire on the sixth floor was out on arrival and a thermal imaging camera was used to confirm this.

The incident had been dealt with by around 6.26pm, but the cause has not been revealed by either party.

Intu's collapse into administration is being covered live here.
