Update from police after hand grenade found on beach

A controlled explosion has been carried out after an old hand grenade was found on Clevedon beach.

Police set up a 100m cordon around the beach as a precaution following the discovery yesterday afternoon (Tuesday, July 14) and alerted the explosive ordinance disposal team (EOD).

The public were warned to keep a safe distance away from the beach while the bomb disposal unit dealt with the matter.

Avon and Somerset Constabulary has now confirmed the device was detonated safely yesterday evening.
