Update emerges on Nottingham Forest defender as Reds facing Djed Spence uncertainty

Nottingham Forest defender Mohamed Drager faces up to three weeks on the sidelines, but is still expected to feature for Tunisia in the Africa Cup of Nations.

The right-back has yet to make his senior debut for the Reds, having joined from Olympiacos in the summer, and has only been included on the bench once so far - in the 0-0 draw at West Bromwich Albion.

It is a position where Forest are light on cover, with teenager Fin Back drafted in against Middlesbrough on Boxing Day in light of Djed Spence’s ineligibility.

The latter could yet be recalled by Boro next month, midway through his season-long loan spell.

Should that happen, Reds boss Steve Cooper could be without Drager as a potential option until into February, due to his international commitments.

The 25-year-old recently impressed for his country during their run in the FIFA Arab Cup in Qatar, but suffered an injury in the final against Algeria.

According to Africa Foot United, Drager has sustained “a sprained ankle, requiring between two and three weeks off” and will be “subjected to a specific rehabilitation programme”.

He has, nevertheless, been included in Tunisia’s 18-man AFCON squad, with the tournament running from January 9 to February 6.

Africa Foot United add that Souheil Chemli, from the national team’s medical department has said Drager is expected to miss group games against Mali and Mauritania on January 12 and 16, but could be available to face Gambia on January 20.

The Reds man was recently linked with Tunisian outfit Esperance Sportive de Tunis ahead of the January transfer window.
