UPDATE: Dumbarton High Street could be closed to vehicles for up to three weeks

Dumbarton High Street could be closed to vehicles for up to three weeks due to a dangerous chimney.

West Dunbartonshire Council confirmed yesterday afternoon that the main route through the town centre was shut due to adverse weather conditions.

A section was also closed to pedestrians on the west side close to the Artizan Centre.

This morning, the local authority has provided an update and confirmed the closure is due to the dangerous condition of a chimney.

They have made an Emergency Temporary Traffic Restriction Order, which means the road, between the north and south junctions of Riverside Lane, could be shut to vehicles for up to 21 days.

Access for pedestrians will be maintained and the diversion route will be Riverside Lane.

It comes after Storm Ciara hit the area bringing gale force winds and heavy rainfall.

The council posted on social media this morning: "Due to the dangerous condition of a chimney, High Street, Dumbarton will be closed to vehicles between its north and south junction with Riverside Lane from 10 February for up to 21 days.

"Access for pedestrians will be maintained. Diversion route will be Riverside Lane."
