Update: Ayrshire rail passengers face disruption as stretch of key line remains closed due to landslip

Ayrshire rail commuters face disruption tomorrow with a stretch of a key line remaining closed due to a landslip.

ScotRail confirmed tonight that replacement bus services will be used between Kilmarnock and Dumfries.

Services have been suspended on the route – which includes the stations of Auchinleck and New Cumnock in East Ayrshire and Kirkconnel and Sanquhar in Dumfriesshire – since Monday afternoon.

The landslip has occurred between Thornhill and Holywood in Dumfriesshire.

And it is on a cross-border line connecting Glasgow Central with the city of Carlisle in Cumbria.

Staff from Network Rail Scotland were on site assessing the situation before darkness fell but the problem has not been resolved.

In a message on social media site Twitter, ScotRail announced: "I'm afraid that buses will continue to replace trains between Kilmarnock and Dumfries tomorrow.

"Our 4.58am and 6.10am services from Dumfries to Carlisle will be cancelled. All other trains between Glasgow and Kilmarnock and Dumfries and Carlisle will run as normal."
