
We have lots of upcoming Switch games headed our way as we enter the new month of August. In fact, thanks to the most recent Nintendo Direct live stream, there's now a slew of new games announced for both the Switch 2 and the OG Switch consoles. Fans can now look forward to the likes of HD-2D RPG Octopath Traveler 0, Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero, and more.
That's right, folks, your old consoles still have some life left in them. Even with the Switch 2 out in the wild and the many upcoming Switch 2 games and Switch 2 game upgrades of some of the best Switch games yet to come, the Switch and Switch OLED aren't going anywhere just yet, with some exciting fresh additions coming in 2025 and beyond.
With Switch exclusives like Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream, which is bringing back the off-beat beloved series after 10 years, to the long-awaited return of Samus in the next Metroid Prime, and a new Pokemon Legends game to tuck into in a matter months, we've rounded up the biggest upcoming Switch games on the way in release date order, so you can stay on top of everything that's in store.

Is This Seat Taken? Is a cozy, laidback logic puzzler with a very cute aesthetic that sees you try to matchmake different groups of very particular people who won't just sit any old place. With lots of characters to find just the right spot for, there are plenty of puzzling levels to clear as encounter more new faces who have their particular tastes and wants.
Iwakura Aria

The team at GamesRadar+ love visual novels, we also love horror so of course Iwakura Aria caught our attention. You play as the new maid for the Iwakura family, whose eerie mansion holds a few secrets within its walls as well as another world. Not only does this game's story look to tick all the classic gothic horror boxes but the art is stunning as well. It does seem to be more of a psychological kind of unease as opposed to traditional jump scares though. So if you are a horror fan that loves adrenaline over slow burn dread, this may not be for you. Release date: August 20, 2025
Discounty is a new life RPG that sees you take over and run your very own discount supermarket in the harbor town of Blomkest. Entrusted to you by your aunt, it's up to you to run the store by organizing your wares, looking after stock levels, and tending to the checkout. You can also sort out trade deals and get to know the locals who you can form friendships with (and even make some enemies) as you start to become a part of the community.
Story of Seasons Grand Bazar

The newest Story of Seasons Switch addition is the iconic DS game, Story of Seasons Grand Bazar. This time around you'll have to help out the community of Zephyr Town, a once famous destination that has now fallen into disrepair. Like with most Story of Season's games, you'll have to farm, craft, explore, and build relationships with the townsfolk. An exciting feature that sets Grand Bazar apart from other series entries though is the winds of the Zephyr Town which you can use to glide your way around the world.
SHINOBI: Art of Vengeance

2025 is the year of the Ninja when it comes to gaming. SHINOBI: Art of Vengeance is a 2D action platformer that oozes with style, having you play as Shinobi Joe Musashi on a revenge quest after finding your village burnt to the ground. Each level and environment that we've seen so far in the trailer for the game is breath taking, having a ink like quality that perfectly suits the fast-paced strokes of your ninja attacks. It also looks like a perfect handheld title, making it seem perfectly at home for the Switch in general.
Sonic Racing CrossWorlds

Release date: September 25, 2025
It's time to get speedy with the fastest hedgehog around. Yes, Sonic Racing CrossWorlds is a new racer from Sega that will see you hit tracks and choose from a roster of iconic characters from the Sonic universe. Following the initial teaser trailer which features Shadow in a supercar speeding down the highway, we also seen more of the game in action, which is also set to feature other notable characters such as Ichiban from Yakuza: Like A Dragon, and Joker from Persona 5.
Agatha Christie - Death on the Nile

Calling all detective fans! Agatha Christie - Death on the Nile is sees you take on the role of both Hercule Poirot and Jane Royce as you try to take on two investigations in a story set in the 1970s. With various locations to explore, a mindmap to make deductions, and a confrontation system that sees you gather evidence and confront potential suspects, you'll look to get to the bottom of a complex case that promises many twists and turns.
NBA Bounce

Love a bit of basketball, local co-op, and getting to play games on the go? Good, because this upcoming Switch game will give you all of that and more. NBA Bounce is set to launch in just a handful of weeks in September 2025, allowing you to design your own mascot and load into three-a-side basketball matches from the comfort of your sofa. This sounds like a great game to whip out at parties or family gatherings, so if you're constantly on the hunt for games like Wii Sports to dive into with others, NBA Bounce sounds like your kind of party.
Pac-Man World 2 Re-Pac

Everyone's favorite hungry little circle is making a comeback in Pac-Man World 2 Re-Pac. Initially released back in 2002, this upcoming Switch game offers up a revamped version of the classic platformer so you can finally play it on modern hardware. It's one of the standout best PS2 games of its generation, so if you want to put your 3D platforming skills to the test, you only need wait for Re-Pac's September launch in a few short weeks!
Pokemon Legends: Z-A

Thanks to a recent trailer reveal during the 2025 Pokemon Day showcase, we now know that Pokemon Legends: Z-A will be released for the Nintendo Switch in late 2025. Additionally, it's known that it will take place entirely within Lumiose City, which is in the Kalos region, during a major urban redevelopment plan to bring together people and Pokemon in the same place. Plants vs Zombies: Replanted

If you also recall the halcyon days of playing Plants VS Zombies when you should have been studying, you're in luck. Plants VS Zombies: Replanted is landing on the Nintendo Switch this October just in time for some off-kilter pre-Halloween tactical antics, bringing its classic host of flora, fauna, and shambling undead masses to your handheld. What's more, Replanted offers some new gameplay conditions to pose an added challenge to your garden defence dreams: a daylight mechanic, which will restrict which plants you can grow when.
Once Upon a Katamari

The latest entry in the Katamari series is coming to a Switch console near you! Once Upon a Katamari is landing on October 24, set to expand Bandai Namco's colorful world of wackiness and giant ball-rolling mayhem. You'll be in control of the titular katamari ball as you collect as many objects as possible to the tune of some seriously energetic music, unlocking various buffs and tools to help you on your gathering snowball quest. Katamari is one of the best-loved games of the PS2 era, so this is one to watch for nostalgic adults (and their kids too, I guess).
Goodnight Universe

One of the most adorable and unique upcoming Switch games has to be Goodnight Universe. The curious new game from developer Nice Dream sees players step into the tiny shoes of a baby named Isaac as he grapples with mystical psychic abilities. Torn between his family and the evil corporation who want to whisk him away to be studied, Goodnight Universe sounds like an exciting yet heartfelt addition to the Switch roster you'll want to keep an eye on this year as we approach its November 2025 release date.
Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero

It's been a long time coming, but Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero finally has a Switch release date. Having launched on PC, Xbox, and PS5 in October 2024, Switch players can expect the Nintendo port to arrive this Fall – and the fighting game sounds perfect for the handheld. Playing as a litany of your favorite Dragon Ball heroes, you'll be going head-to-head in colorful cartoonish battles with all the anime flair you could ask for. Each has unique abilities and powers, and with 180 to choose from, Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero sounds like one upcoming Switch game that'll be worth the wait.
Octopath Traveler 0

Release date: December 4, 2025
Newly-revealed Octopath Traveler 0is already one of the biggest upcoming Switch games out there. The stunning turn-based JRPG is a prequel to the past two games in the Octopath series, this time bringing 30 recruitable party members to choose from. With an eight-person party limit, a player-made character you get to tailor yourself (a series-first), and new city-building elements to boot, Octopath Traveler 0 sounds more than capable of unseating some of the best JRPGs out there. Better still? You need only wait for December to get your hands on it.

Hello Kitty Island Adventure: Wheatflour Wonderland

Hello Kitty's very own cozy game is getting a long-awaited DLC in Hello Kitty Island Adventure: Wheatflour Wonderland! The autumnal expansion. Our mission is simple: restore the Wheatflour Guardians, unlock the Ancient Citadel, and reap the bounties within! With a host of new Sanrio characters joining Hello Kitty and My Melody, including adorable cloud-like Cogimyun, as well as new outfits and other customization tools, Wheatflour Wonderland sounds like the perfect complement to an already beautiful cozy life sim, even if we are awaiting a more first release date.
Hollow Knight Silksong

We know that it's coming, we just don't know when. The wait for Hollow Knight: Silksong has been brutal, but Team Cherry is finally ready to deliver its sequel to one of the best metroidvania games of all-time. The Hollow Knight sequel was first unveiled in 2019, with development reportedly spiralling out of control as the Silksong idea evolved in scope from DLC to full-fledged experience. Here's hoping we get our hands on Hollow Knight: Silksong sooner rather than later.
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond

Release date: TBC 2025
Metroid Prime 4 has been a long time coming. Announced back in 2017, nothing much was seen of the sequel to Metroid Prime 3: Corruption until June 2024. That's largely because development on the upcoming Switch game was rebooted in 2019, with production shifting to Retro Studios – the team responsible for the original Prime trilogy.
With our first proper look at the game, we now also know that it's Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and is expected to launch for the Nintendo Switch in 2025.
Witchbrook

Release date: TBC 2025
It's been years, years! However, during the March 2025 Nintendo Direct, we finally got news about one of our most anticipated cozy games, Witchbrook. In this new Switch game, you'll play was the newest magical resident of the seaside city of Mossport. There you'll learn spells, grow your own witchy business, and even perhaps fall in love? Witchbrook was first revealed back in 20218, so we're more than ready to dig our claws into this one. Currently, there's still no firm release date. However, we do know that we can expect to see a launch sometime in "winter 2025."

Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream

After over 10 years, Tomodachi Life is making a comeback in Tomodachi Life: Living Dream. Officially revealed as part of the Nintendo Direct March 2025 showcase, you can once again create your own Mii characters and get to know other residents "on an island out at sea". You can also help them develop relationships and see all the "weird and wonderful" ways they can interact with one another.

Inkonbini: One store. Many stories

Inkonbini is described as a third-person simulation game that sees you run a small-town convivence store in the early '90s. As a laidback management experience, you'll stock shelves, decide products go on the sales floor, and order more stock. As you get stuck into your daily routines, you'll meet a host of different characters and get to know their stories as you speak to them.
Pokemon Champions

Release date: TBC
Pokemon Champions was announced during the 2025 Pokemon day showcase and will launch on "the Nintendo Switch family of systems". This means that we'll definitely see it released on iOS and Android smartphones, and an eventual Switch launch is also highly likely. The upcoming Switch game will bring PvP trainer battles to the console. This will be a competitive multiplayer experience where you put your Pokemon trainer skills to the test against other players worldwide. So, if you truly want to "be the best like no one ever was," keep Pokemon Champions on your radar.
Professor Layton and the New World of Steam

Release date: TBC
During the February 2023 Nintendo Direct, we got a very brief tease of a new Professor Layton game, which at long last signalled the return of the series. While we don't know too much about the new entry coming to the Switch, we do know that we're set to experience a fresh story filled with puzzles in the new setting of Steam Bison, which is home to advanced steam engines. A mysterious incident is said to draw Layton and Luke there for a new adventure.
Rhythm Heaven Groove

Release date: TBC 2026
Announced during the March 2025 Nintendo Direct, one of the best 3DS games is finally getting a Switch sequel. Rhythm Heaven Groove is an upcoming rhythm RPG that will have players clicking in time, having to stay on the beat in order to get to the next level. Expect to see a ton of fun mini-games here, and fingers crossed that we have a new entry to add to our list of the best rhythm games of all time once this releases in 2026. Yokai Watch 4

Release date: TBC
If you're a Pokemon fan, you probably already know about the Yo-Kai Watch series. It follows a similar format in that you collect critters that also function as your companions as a young kid. In terms of new gameplay features, it introduces a brand new item, called the Yokai Ark, which will let players travel between three worlds that are all set in different time periods, and feature their own protagonist. While it released in Japan back in 2019, there's still no concrete word on a Western release date. We still have our fingers crossed for this one.
