A whole host of workers are set to continue their industrial action into the month of February, as railway lines and various levels of schooling will be affected.
Strikes have been taking place across the UK since the end of 2022, with various unions staging walkouts and hosting picket lines outside their place of work. Services like Royal Mail, Parcelforce, the NHS and various universities have been affected, as disputes over pay, working conditions and sick leave come into the argument.
Here are the main public service strikes planned for the coming months, and the dates that these unions will be staging industrial action across Edinburgh.

University strikes
There has been nationwide strike action in universities across the UK, as members of the University and College Union (UCU) plan numerous days of industrial action throughout February.
Edinburgh Napier University, Heriot-Watt University, and the University of Edinburgh workers will walk out over a host of different reasons, including pay, working conditions and pensions.
The following dates are when strike action will occur:
- February 9
February 10
February 14
February 15
February 16
February 21
February 22
February 23
February 27
February 28
The union also said it would re-ballot staff at all 150 universities. That could see the dispute extend well into 2023 if the support for strikes continues.
Firefighter strikes
Firefighters across the UK voted to strike for the first time in 20 years.
Members of the Fire Brigades Union (FBU) rejected a five per cent pay rise and are seeking "a credible offer." The UK government says a strike would be "disappointing and concerning."
However, no dates have been set for these upcoming strike days.
Teacher strikes
Strikes in Scotland began back in November for the nation's largest teaching union, the Educational Institute of Scotland (EIS). Further strikes took place in January, and will continue into the month of February.
Two more Scotland-wide strikes involving all four unions are scheduled for February 28 and March 1, followed by another three weeks of rolling strikes.
Teachers are campaigning for a ten per cent pay rise, with most being offered five per cent at the moment. The Scottish government claims that, under its offer, fully qualified teachers in Scotland would be paid more than £7,500 more than their counterparts in England.
