UP: Trapped in net, leopard found dead in Bulandshahr

MEERUT: A leopard died in Devrala village of Bulandshahr after getting stuck in a trap net set up for catching wild boars by farmers.

According to the locals, the cat remained trapped in the net for at least 5 hours before a Meerut based team arrived at the spot. However, it had died by then due to prolonged strangulation.

According to DFO Bulandshahr Vineeta Singh, “We got the information that a leopard had been caught in the net. We reached there and asked Meerut team comprising some experts to reach the spot. Closer examination of the body revealed that the cat died of strangulation.”

In the last couple of months, several leopard sightings have been reported from the Meerut zone, comprising nine districts of Western UP and various incidents of leopard deaths have taken place across West UP districts.

In fact, Bijnor, which hosts a large number of leopards, has seen 11 deaths in the last five months.
