Southeastern latest: Up to 6,000 passengers a day to be impacted by 'Leaves on the Line' timetable next week

Some 6,000 rail passengers using Southeastern Railway will be affected by a reduced timetable next week caused by '"leaves on the line", the company said.

Southeastern Railway says it is running a reduced timetable next week to reduce the risk of accidents caused by leaves on the line.

The company’s reduced timetable will be implemented between November 12 and 16 “during the worst of the autumn weather.”

Ellie Burrows, train services director for Southeastern said: "Driving conditions can be particularly difficult for our train drivers at this time of year, and just as we wouldn't ask someone to accelerate over black ice on the roads, leaves on the line pose the same danger on the railway.

"We can't risk the safety of passengers by driving trains at full speed when conditions are bad."

She said the changes were being made to ensure the safest and most reliable services.

Passengers are advised to check their journey on the Southeastern website or its mobile app, checking National Rail Enquiries or tweeting to @Se-railway or following the hashtag #SEautumn.

Last month, Southeastern Railway passengers faced travel misery after a broken down train at London Victoria caused delays and cancellations.

Passengers on board the train complained of being trapped on the train for three hours.
