'Up to 200' staff at Scots Tesco distribution centre asked to self-isolate

'Up to 200' staff at Tesco's only Scottish distribution centre in Livingston have reportedly been asked to self-isolate due to Covid.

It is understood that there has not been a Covid outbreak at the West Lothian premises, but the workers have been asked to self-isolate because of community transmission.

One social media user claimed that 350 staff members were off due to the virus but it is thought that the actual number is actually considerably lower.

Tesco confirmed that a number of their colleagues were self-isolating but that they did not comment on specific figures.

A spokesperson said: "A number of colleagues at our Livingston Distribution Centre have been asked to isolate by Test and Protect.

"The safety of our colleagues, customers and suppliers remains our number one priority and we are working with local public health authorities, following all Scottish Government guidance and taking the relevant precautions.

"We have extensive measures across all of our facilities to help keep everyone safe.”

The latest coronavirus figures published by the Scottish Government showed that 3,216 new cases were confirmed in the past 24 hours.

Over the last seven day up to July 6, 712 new cases were registered in West Lothian.
