Up to 20 vehicles damaged as major blaze tears through barn

Up to 20 vehicles have been ravaged by fire after a large blaze ripped through a barn last night.

Eight crews and a high volume pump were called and fire-fighters have spent the night tackling the fire in Widnes.

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service confirmed they arrived at the barn on Joy Lane, off Clock Face Road at 10.46pm and found the 20 x 30 ft building "well alight".

Fire officials confirmed that up to 20 vehicles are inside the gutted barn.

At this stage no details of the vehicles or cause of the fire has been given.

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service said crews battled through the night and although scaled down some firefighters continue to tackle the fire this morning.

And in a tweet earlier this morning they added: "Firefighters have continued fighting the fire, believed to involve up to 20 vehicles in the barn throughout the night.

"The incident has now been scaled down significantly but firefighters remain on scene to ensure it is fully extinguished."

The ECHO understands fire crews left the scene just before 9am.
