Officers from the Territory Response Group have been deployed to Bathurst Island, as a feud involving up to 100 people boils over.
NT Police Duty Superintendent Rob Burgoyne said the stoush between two family groups came to light following a funeral on October 19, and had escalated in the week since.
"Unfortunately it's largely alcohol-fuelled," Duty Superintendent Burgoyne told ABC Radio Darwin.
"We've had reports of up to 100 people at one stage fighting over there.
"We've had reports of star pickets [used as weapons] and other things."
Mr Burgoyne said additional police — including six Territory Response Group (TRG) officers — were deployed to the island on Monday, prompting the dispute to "settle down pretty quickly".
He said arrests would be made over the assaults.
"We're trying to organise a meeting today with the elders and other government groups over there to try and come to some sort of resolution," he said.
"It's just been ongoing … It seems to be remaining a bit of a problem."
In a separate incident last month, extra officers were deployed to Millingimbi, about 440 kilometres east of Darwin, after a small group of residents began throwing rocks and firing slingshots at officers, vehicles, and buildings, causing "extensive damage to local infrastructure".
