Up to 1,000 Dublin kids to attempt to enter Guinness Book of Records by forming longest human chain of people patting each other on the back

Up to 1,000 Dublin school kids hope to enter the Guinness Book of Records by creating the longest human chain of people patting each other on the back.

Children from four schools will attempt to break the previous record set in June last year by 329 students from a school in the UK.

Over 600 pupils at Willow Park Junior School will be involved as well as hundreds of students from its sister schools at Willow Park First Year and Blackrock College.

Finally, pupils from neighbouring co-educational St Andrew’s College will also join the effort.

The students will be giving each other record breaking reassuring pats on the front lawn of Blackrock College at 1pm on Thursday.

James Docherty, Principal of Willow Park Junior School, stated: “When we pat someone on the back we are usually congratulating them or wishing them well.

“Words are often unnecessary.  The children are coming to the end of their school year and this is a nice way to end the year.

“And of course, everyone likes the idea of being in the record books.”

He added: “In the lead up to the world record attempt, the children have fundraised for Dogs for the Disabled.

“We hope to raise the funds necessary to train at least one assistance dog called Willow.  Dogs for the Disabled is a valuable charity which supports children and adults to live independent and fulfilled lives.”
