UP: Statement of rescued woman — who had eloped with Muslim youth — yet to be recorded; cops say she is unwell

AGRA: Almost a week after a woman, who had eloped with a Muslim youth leading to violence in Agra, was rescued from Delhi, her statement is yet to be recorded before a magistrate. Police said that the woman is unwell and not in condition to record her statement.

The woman reportedly married Sajid, who converted to Hinduism, in an Arya Samaj temple in Delhi on April 12, a day after her parents lodged a police complaint against the youth. She had recorded four videos that went viral on social media before she was “rescued” by the police.

In one of the videos, she is heard saying, “We are adults. We came together on our own will and got married. Please don’t trouble our family members because of us. I will come and record my statement before court.” In another video, she stated that her parents want her to make false accusations against Sajid. Please help them out.

Talking to TOI SP (City) Vikas Kumar said that her statement will be recorded once she feels better in a day or two.

Last Friday, Sajid and his relatives’ houses were set on fire by a mob including members of Dharam Jagran Samanvay Sangh. Police had registered an FIR against 21 identified persons and over 200 unidentified one. Nine people were arrested and remanded to judicial custody on the same day.
