UP polls: Akhilesh Yadav charges mere excuse for SP’s poll defeat, says Anurag Thakur

LUCKNOW: Union Minister Anurag Thakur on Tuesday rubbished Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav’s allegations of the ruling BJP’s attempt to influence the poll results as a mere ‘excuse’ to explain his party’s defeat in the 2022 Assembly polls. He said the truth is that a new ‘MY’ factor has tilted the scale in BJP’s favour where ‘M-Y’ stand for Modi and Yogi.

“I had said it before and repeating again: Ye wahi SaPa hai jis se janata khafa hai, aur 10 March ko Akhilesh kahenge ki EVM bewafa hai (This is the same SP with whom the public is unhappy and on March 8 Akhilesh will claim that EVMs were manipulated),” the Union minister said, giving a spin to SP’s slogan of “Nayi hawa hai, nayi Sapa hai (This is a new SP). “I was under the impression that Akhilesh will point fingers at the EVM after losing the elections on March 10 when the votes will be counted. But he has started accusing the EVMs two days in advance,” he said, adding that SP is looking for an excuse to mask its defeat in the polls.

People have understood that SP backs terror accused, rioters and gangsters and hence none will fall into the trap and vote for the party. "A new M-Y factor has come into play in favour of the BJP which is Modi and Yogi. Along with this, Modi ki Yojnayen (schemes and projects of Modi government) have left a lasting impact on the minds and hearts of the people and the result of this will be evident on March 10 when the votes will be counted," Thakur said.

Replying to Akhilesh Yadav’s allegations, deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya asked him to stop staging a drama before counting of votes. “Akhilesh did not even wait for March 10 and started questioning EVMs. He should congratulate the EC and the officials for peaceful conduct of elections,” Maurya said.
