UP poll: EVMs carried in truck were marked for training, says ECI

LUCKNOW: Following reports of EVMs being carried in a vehicle in Varanasi, the Election Commission of India (ECI) issued clarification that these machines were marked for training, and rumours were spread by few political parties against the transparency of the commision.

According to the ECI, for the training of counting officials, a training session was organized on Wednesday for which EVMs stored in UP College located in Mandi warehouse were taken to the training site.

"Tomorrow (Wednesday) is the second training of the officers engaged in counting duty and the EVMs were already in use for the training," said the ECI.

"All Electronic Voting Machines used for voting are sealed inside strong room and secured in a three-tier security cordon of the central paramilitary forces. The machines are being continuously monitored through CCTV by representatives of all political parties and candidates," the ECI said.
