Up For Review dies after horrific fall at the Grand National

An historic Grand National was tinged with sadness after Up For Review lost his life during the 172nd running of the race.

The Willie Mullins-trained horse, ridden by Danny Mullins, fell at the first fence as the field began their second circuit during the world famous steeplechase.

His death, the first in the race since significant safety measures were brought in after the 2012 renewal, capped a horrible month for owners Andrea and Graham Wylie, who also lost both Invitation Only and Ballyward at the Cheltenham Festival.

The race was won by Gordon Elliott’s superstar Tiger Roll, who became the first horse since Red Rum to win back-to-back Nationals, under Davy Russell .

That triumph confirmed his place as an all-time great, with his second Aintree triumph coming after he earned a fourth Cheltenham win last month.

Rank outsider Magic Of Light finished an excellent second, with Rathvinden third under Ruby Walsh and Walk In The Mill fourth.
