UP: Excise department launches drive to check sale of illicit liquor

LUCKNOW: With the sale of liquor expected to rise ahead of Diwali, the excise department has launched a special drive to check the sale and manufacture of illicit liquor.

The drive will continue till November 5 during which joint teams of excise, police and administration will conduct raids at suspected places of the manufacture and sale of illicit liquor and at the suspicious dhabas located near national and state highways.

Additional chief secretary (excise) Sanjay Bhoosreddy said that chief minister Yogi Adityanath has instructed the department to take action against the manufacture, sale and smuggling of illicit liquor in the state.

“Excise minister Ram Naresh Agnihotri has issued directions for a special enforcement drive across the state till November 5. During this drive, joint teams of excise, police and administration will be constituted by district magistrates and superintendents of police. The teams shall carry out raids at suspected places of manufacture and sale of illicit liquor and at dhabas ,” he said.

Senthil Pandian C, UP excise commissioner, said that a person can lodge a complaint about the manufacture, sale or smuggling of illicit liquor on toll free numbers ‘14405’ and ‘18001805331’ and WhatsApp number 9454466019.
