LUCKNOW: Zafar Supari, a close associate of don Chhota Rajan, was brought to Ambedkarnagar on Tuesday for questioning in the murder of BSP leader Jugran Mehndi and his driver Shobhit Yadav three years ago.
Zafar was recently arrested by Nagpur police. His name had cropped up in the murder of Mehndi and his driver after the sole eyewitness of the killing was also shot dead in 2019, and subsequent investigations pointed towards the involvement of Khan Mubarak gang. The gang was being led by Zafar since his brother Khan Mubarak had been arrested by UP Police in July 2017.
Zafar will be in remand of Ambedkarnagar police till September 27. Ambedkarnagar superintendent of police Alok Priyadarshi said, “In the preliminary probe, it had come to light that Khan Mubarak and Jugran Mehndi were friends and worked together.”
“But they fought for gaining supremacy and Jugran Mehndi was eliminated finally in the tussle. We would be questioning Zafar Supari about the gang and who were the shooters,” the SP said.
