LUCKNOW: Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday paid respects to martyrs who had sacrificed their lives for the country during the 1999 Kargil War.
Speaking at the anniversary of the conclusion of the Kargil war with Pakistan, Yogi encouraged people to rise above petty differences of caste, religion and language to work together. He appealed to people to participate in the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.
Attending a programme at the Kargil Shaheed Smriti Vatika in Lucknow, he said: "The Kargil war was forced on India by Pakistan. Today was the day in 1999 when India's victory was declared. Along with India's win, Pakistan was left barefaced in front of the world. Many soldiers were martyred in this war. Those from UP included Captain Manoj Kumar Pandey, Captain Aditya Mishra, Lance Naik Kewalanand Dwivedi, rifleman Sunil Jung and Major Ritesh Sharma, who are remembered with utmost pride and respect."
The CM assured the families of the martyrs that the central and state governments are with them and will provide all possible support to them. He said that it was necessary to work with a plan for where citizens want to take the country. For building such a country, he said, all 135 crore Indians will have to work together.
Speaking about the special celebrations to mark the 75th anniversary of India's independence this year, the CM said that a special campaign will be held from August 11 to 17 in which Prabhat pheris will be taken out and programmes will be held across the state.
Between August 13 and 15, the country will be linked with the Har Ghar Tiranga programme where efforts will be made to fly the tricolour from every single house.
