UP: Brother of IAS officer killed in Pratapgarh over money dispute

LUCKNOW: A man was arrested for killing the brother of an IAS officer over a money-related dispute in Pratapgarh on Monday.

The person arrested was identified as Hridaylal of Maheshganj police station area. Police also recovered a stick with which the accused had attacked Ashwani Shukla, 48.

Superintendent of police, Pratapgarh, Satpal, told TOI that the victim's brother Rakesh Shukla is an IAS officer and is currently posted as Director, Social Welfare in Lucknow. Explaining the sequence of events, Satpal further said that Ashwani had lent a sum of money to a villager Hridaylal.

“On Monday morning, the victim learned that Hridaylal had sold a piece of his land recently, so in order to take his money back, he visited the accused in the morning,” said the SP.

During the conversation, a spat took place between them. In a fit of rage, Hridaylal picked up a stick kept in the house and attacked Ashwani. He struck several blows on Ashwani’s head. Following the impact, a profusely bleeding victim fell on the ground.

The locals then informed the police who took him to hospital in Rae Bareli from where he was referred to Lucknow. But, he died during treatment.Rakesh Shukla had lodged an FIR of attempt to murder which would now be converted into a murder case.
