LUCKNOW: UP BJP has written to the Election Commission urging it to rein in the unruly elements of the Samajwadi Party in Mainpuri parliamentary bypoll. State general secretary of the party JPS Rathore has handed over a list of such names to the commission and sought strict action.
The party has also demanded tight security at over-sensitive booths in Mainpuri against booth capturing.
The letter also said that the Samajwadi Party has breached the model code of conduct in Mainpuri. The unruly SP workers are intimidating and threatening voters in Mainpuri though the canvassing in the constituency ended on Saturday. The state BJP had also complained against the SP workers on November 30 to the local administration and the election commission. The party in its complaint said that unruly SP workers are threatening voters in Karhal, Kishni and Jaswant Nagar vidhan sabha region.
The complaint by the BJP mentioned that SP has distributed sarees to voters and sweaters in schools. The SP workers and leaders are holding public meetings by blocking roads. Near Jaria village under Kurra police station, SP supporter Surendra Yadav distributed cash to voters. The SP workers are trying to influence voters by openly distributing liquor.
