UP assembly elections: Govt not working for people, busy tapping phones, says Priyanka Gandhi Vadra

LUCKNOW: Accusing the BJP and the RSS of doing politics in the name of religion, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Sunday called upon the women to change the course of politics by supporting the Congress in the 2022 assembly elections.

Talking to reporters ahead of "Shakti Samvad" event in Rae Bareli, Priyanka defended the views of her brother, Rahul Gandhi, on Hindu and Hindutva.

"What did he say? He is simply pointing out the difference. Hinduism teaches love and unity which is a fact. RSS and BJP are not on the path of righteousness," she said.

Priyanka also attacked the Narendra Modi government for failing to safeguard the interests of the people and wasting time in tapping the phones of the opposition leaders.

"A government’s job is to develop, understand and find solutions to the problems of the people and check atrocities. Instead, the present dispensation is tapping the phones of the opposition," she said.

Talking to women in Rae Bareli, she asked them to vote for those who genuinely want to empower them. "Empowerment does not mean a gas cylinder or a toilet. It means self-reliance. Women should be able to decide their own priorities, make their own life and be able to fight against all exploitation."

Earlier, Priyanka interacted with girls and women on the stage and listened to their problems.
