UP: Amit Shah to lay foundation of university in Saharanpur today

LUCKNOW: Union home minister Amit Shah will lay the foundation stone of Maa Shakumbhari University in Saharanpur on Thursday.

Maa Shakumbhari University, spread across 50.4 acres, is being set up in Saharanpur’s Sadar tehsil.

A government spokesperson said a sum of Rs 92 crore has been approved for construction of administrative building, academic building, hostel, and residential building. The public works department has been entrusted with the responsibility of the construction work.

As many as 264 colleges in three districts, Muzaffarnagar, Saharanpur, and Shamli, will be affiliated to the Maa Shakumbhari University, the spokesperson said. Once established, this university will cater to the education needs of students residing in various districts of Saharanpur division.

The ancient temple of Goddess Shakumbhari Devi in Saharanpur district is one of the famous Shakti Peeths, and hence the university has been named after her.
