Unwanted dog is still waiting for someone to love her after 250 days in kennels

Snowflake is now the longest staying dog at Manchester dog's home after spending 250 days in search for a new home.

The Cano Corso cross is fun loving and playful, but isn't having much attention due to her health condition and cropped ears.

She arrived at the centre as a stray at the end of 2020 and hasn’t left since. Staff are now eager to find the energetic pup the right home and believe it’s possible.

Unfortunately Snowflake suffers with hip dysplasia which requires ongoing medical treatment, which is one main reason she is being overlooked.

Anthony Bilson, admin and spokesperson for Manchester dogs’ home told TeamDogs : “She hasn’t had a lot of attention at all. I think one of the main reasons is that she has hip dysplasia that will require ongoing treatment. The cost of medical treatment turns people away.”

But despite her health condition she is a very active and playful girl who is incredibly big and strong. For the right home, the shelter might be able to help with her ongoing medical costs.

Another reason Snowflake is struggling may be due to her rare breed and cropped ears. Although very beautiful, her unique appearance doesn’t seem to be attracting people's interest.

Anthony said: “Cane Corso’s aren’t really a well-known breed. The poor thing has had her ears cropped so that also puts people off.

“The sooner we can get her a home the better for her mental health.”

Snowflake had some interest in December last year but unfortunately it wasn’t the right home to cater for her health condition.

“At Christmas we had one application from someone who liked to go on long mountain treks, but Snowflake has hip dysplasia so it wasn’t ideal. She does need exercise but she can’t go on long walks.” Anthony explained.

The ideal owner for Snowflake would be someone who has experience with big breeds. She will need a home with no other pets or young children, as she is incredibly playful and doesn’t realise how big she is. Her owner will need patience when it comes to training and manners around other dogs.

To be the right owner for Snowflake, you need to be prepared to carry on her medical treatment. She’s currently on painkillers which are ongoing but she would also benefit from hydrotherapy.

As with all rescue dogs, sometimes they just need a little extra love and care and another chance at life.
